LEARNING INNOVATION FROM THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

“The National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (National Library) has been transformed into three parts,” said Head of Automation Tuty Hendrawati starting the remarks given to all participants of Level III Leadership Training (Diklatpim) Batch I Year 2019 in the Audiovisual Theater Room, 8th Floor, National Library Building on Monday, 8 July 2019. The three parts of the National Library of Indonesia transformation are the Center for Science (innovation), the Center for Culture (preservation and promotion), and the Center for Community Activities (empowerment).

The visit of the Level III Diklatpim participants in Batch I in 2019 was in the context of learning the Innovation training course. National Library was chosen as the location to learn about the development of innovation because it is considered to have made many changes. Innovation changes made, especially the development of facilities and infrastructure, services, to increasing the capacity of human resources. In accordance with the 2019 Government Work Plan, the National Library development target is to improve the quality of human resources and improve people’s welfare. These two goals can be realized by making the library a center for information literacy and a center for information activities. In accordance with the 2019 National Library tagline “Library Works”, the National Library of Indonesia is also intensively carrying out a literacy movement. This movement aims to improve social welfare for the community and is packaged in the form of a workshop. After attending these activities, the community can immediately implement the knowledge gained in everyday life. In addition to the literacy movement, participants are invited to explore various innovations that have been carried out by the National Library of Indonesia in the use of information technology. These innovations are manifested in various forms of services such as Onestop Service, Digital Corner, National Scope Bigdata, Online Collection Message Service, and Inter-Library Service.

The 34 training participants received exposure to the innovative changes made by the National Library of Indonesia. They were also invited to make library membership cards for free. This membership card is used to access all facilities in National Library. The National Library of Indonesia plans to collaborate with one of the e-money providers, so that library membership cards can be used for transactions and payments for public transportation modes. At the end of this visit, the participants toured the library building. Standing on an area of ​​11,975 m2 with a building as high as 126.3 meters, the National Library of Indonesia building is designed by adopting the concept of green building. This building is claimed to be the tallest library building in the world. By visiting the National Library of Indonesia, he hopes to provide new ideas for young leaders to innovate to be implemented in their respective work units. (IAP)
